the joy of acting
Skit Team is a group of older children, teenagers, and young adults who perform skits each day of Vacation Bible School. These skits are ten to fifteen minutes long and tell a story over five days. The story relates back to the Bible Story and theme of each day. This is a fun way to get the youth involved in Vacation Bible School.
Creating Skit Team
To make it easier, just a few simple steps:
- First: Assemble your team. You will need 4 - 5 actors. Anyone can be an actor as long as they can read. Don't be afraid to use a variety of ages. Whatever works. You will also need volunteers to help create some small props and stage pieces.
- Second: Make a schedule but be flexible - For rehearsing and creating. Start with simple read-throughs to get everyone comfortable with the lines of their characters. Once everyone is comfortable with their lines, add the action and blocking.
- Third: Rehearse frequently so that everyone is comfortable. The more prepared everyone feels the better things will go. Keep extra copies of the script available.
- Remember that this is a time for fun and spiritual growth. Group prayer before or after rehearsal will help everyone to keep focused.
- Have fun!
