At my church, we have a long hallway that connects most of the rooms that we use for Vacation Bible School. Every year, we transform this hallway. This year, it is going to become a mineshaft. This can be used for hallways or walls.
Supplies:
- Black Paper (Long Rolls)
- White Paint
- Black Paint
- Yellow Paint
- Brown Paint
- Containers
- Paintbrushes
- Sticky Tack/Tape
- Blue Paper
- Green Paint
- Blue Paint
- Black Garbage Bags
- Black Plastic Tableclothes
- Board
- Christmas Tree lights
Step One
- Take your roll of long black paper and measure approximately how much you will need
- Then take the paper and roll it out in a large open area
- It is EXTREMELY important to make sure you have enough space for all your paper to do this in. The paint will take hours to dry and cannot be moved or rolled up until it is dry

Step Two
- Now you need to mix up the paint. I found it easiest to use one container for all four colors so I could easily mix them together
- Start out with a container and pour black, white, yellow, and brown into each of the four corners
- Have four paintbrushes; one for each color
- First, mix some of the black and white to create gray
- Second, mix all the yellow with some brown and white to create gold
- These are the main colors that I used to paint
Step THree
- A mineshaft has veins of gold, silver, and other metals running through it. That is what we are recreating with this paint
- There are three kinds of veins that we created, gold, silver, and copper
- To create each type, paint the stems of a plant with each different color
- Once the base is created, you can paint highlights onto some of the edges with the other colors you have created
Step Four
- You can also decorate the black paper with words. This is supposed to be a mine
- Use white paint to the words "BLAST ZONE" and "DANGER"
STep Five
- In order to make the black paper look like cave walls, crumple up the paper.
Step Six
- Take the paper and tape it up to the walls, cutting away parts for doorways
Step seven
step eight
- Cut black garbage bags in half
- Tape them together
- Tape them onto the ceiling
step nine
step ten
- Use any leftover black paper to make an entrance
- Paint a "Mineshaft" sign on a board
- Hang up Christmas Tree lights on the ceiling
